Pino Manos

Italian artist Pino Manos was born in Sassari in 1930. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and at the Polytechnic University in Milan before completing his diploma in architecture in Florence. He travelled extensively across the world and settled permanently in Milan in 1968, where he passed in 2020.

Pino Manos has been one of the central figures in the development of the Rigorismo – a movement rooted in the tradition of the Spazialismo (Spatialism) and the Zero Group, which initially developed in Italy and Germany, respectively, in the 1940s and '50s. Rigorismo posits that space is an active element in an artistic composition, not simply an empty area to be filled in. Noted for his large-scale monochromatic pieces, originally embellished with twisted strips of canvas and painted in rich color, Manos' art explores the relationships of the light and shadow that stimulate the becoming of the total vision.

Manos participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Italy and other parts of the world; his works are held in several private and public collections in Italy and abroad. Three of his works feature in the Nelson Rockefeller collection in New York, USA.
